5 REASONS why you should learn Spanish in SMALL GROUPS (7 students max).
So you have probably been wondering what the best way to learn Spanish may be. Also, you have probably been considering taking private classes or group classes. When it comes to learning a new language, students may choose different learning approaches based on their capabilities, time availability or other sort of preferences.
The aim of this article is not making you choose one way or another. Instead, we want to highlight the benefits of learning Spanish in small groups, regardless of the age group. At The Spanish Academy we believe group classes should never be bigger than 5-6 students.
These are some of the differences you may know between choosing large groups or small groups:
1.Small group learning focuses on individuals.
This form of learning focuses on problem-solving and communication skills. In small groups you will encounter active involvement and collaboration. Students in small groups accomplish more learning in shorter time. Hence, small group learning encourages students towards self-directed and independent learning.
2. The teacher is a learning facilitator, rather than an instructor.
The teacher in small groups knows very well his students and is a very knowledgeable facilitator who is prepared to allow the students to achieve their learning objectives faster than average.
The teacher facilitates the process of learning by providing the best learning tools. Also, the teacher is able to challenge students to think for themselves and allow them to structure their thoughts and ideas.
3. Flexible learning
Although our group classes follow a structured syllabus, throughout the different modules extra activities can be added to facilitate the learning process and provide a less rigid environment.
Also, at The Spanish Academy all our teachers can easily identify each of the students’ weaknesses and immediately suggest the best learning resources to accommodate their needs when learning Spanish.
4. Enhancement of student confidence.
Rather than being just another individual in the class, student in small groups feel themselves much more participative and tend to feel less pressure when it comes to being involved in the class. Whereas in large groups individuals usually tend to participate less, in small groups students are very familiar with their classmates and bond together so they are much more willing to share ideas among their pals.
5. Constant feedback from the teacher.
Large groups make it very difficult for the teacher to understand each of the weaknesses from his students. However, students in small groups are constantly monitored by the teacher throughout the different learning activities involved in class. All our teachers will listen carefully and solve all the students’ questions immediately. This is how we understand learning should be approached.
